THE CONCEPT OF INCIDENT

An incident is:-

–An unexpected, unplanned event in a sequence of events

–That occurs through a combination of causes

–Which result in:

•Physical harm (injury, ill-health or disease) to an individual,

•Damage to property,
•A near-miss, a loss
•Any combination of these effects

An accident is:-

•Unplanned event results in mishap (personal injury or property damage).

•Accidents are the result of the failure of people, equipment, materials, or environment to react as expected.

•All accidents have consequences or outcomes.

INTRODUCTION TO OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (OSH) LEGISLATION

1.1 Understand the concept of Occupational Safety and

Health (OSH).
1.1.1 Recognize OSH legislation.

1.2 Understand the importance of safety in workplace.
1.2.1 Determine duty of care.

1.3 Understand statutory requirements.
1.3.1 State the objective of Occupational Safety and Health 1994 (Act 514).

1.3.2 List Employers responsibilities (Part IV, Section 15-19).

1.3.3 List Employees responsibilities (Part VI, Section 24-27).

1.3.4 State the objective of Factory and Machinery Act 1967.

1.4 Understand the role of safety and health organization in Malaysia
1.4.1 Explain the role of Department of Safety and Health (DOSH).

1.4.2 Explain the role of National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

1.4.3 Explain the role of Social Security Organisation (SOCSO).

THE CONCEPTS OF MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

1.The development of systems to prevent accidents, injuries, and other adverse occurrences in an institutional setting.

2.The concept includes prevention or reduction of adverse events or incidents involving employees, patients, or facilities.

3.Examples include plans to reduce injuries from falls or plans for fire safety to promote a safe institutional environment.
